When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee. is the antecedent; the consequent. The kind of "wisdom" to be sought for diligently, as being the effectual wisdom, is not that which gains merely a momentary entrance, but that which "enters" deeply "into the heart" (), so as to become "pleasant to the soul." When it is such, it not merely gives "every good" (), but it "preserves" and "keeps" from all evil (; ). It is he who 'delights in the law of the Lord' that is kept safe from 'walking in the counsel of the ungodly' (Psalms 1:1). "Preserve thee" - literally, 'keep guard over thee.' The Lord "keeps" His people "as the apple of his eye" (; ).
