So King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, having repented of his sins, he could clear his land of the invaders in the course of time, and reigned; for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put His name there, which He had intended for the central Sanctuary for the entire people of Israel. And his mother's name was Naamah, an Ammonitess, who, by reason of the harem system, had more influence over him than would otherwise have been the case.
