For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host; for so the soldiers explained to themselves the continuous and increasing rushing and roaring in the air, their ears being deceived through the power of God. And they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, whose forces might be expected from the north, and the kings of the Egyptians, who would come upon them from the south, to come upon us.
