And Abner said to Joab, proposing to decide the matter by individual contests, Let the young men now arise and play before us, here said of a serious battle-play, a combat of arms which was more than a game. And Joab, agreeing to the proposal to avoid a bloody civil war, if possible, said, Let them arise.
