Kretzmann's Popular Commentary

Isaiah 25:8

He will swallow up death in victory, completely abolish it with all its power, 2 Timothy 1:10; Revelation 20:14; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces, Revelation 21:4; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth, thus removing the cause of all troubles with which men are suffering; for the Lord hath spoken it. In this manner the final victory of the Church is pictured, the happy perfection of all the saints in the glory of heaven. Cf 1 Corinthians 15:28. After the final victory over death the people of God, delivered from its power, will praise the Lord throughout eternity.
