‘But to this day, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.'

The final phrase in 2 Corinthians 3:14 is repeated, but this time going a step further and applies the veil, not to ‘Moses' but to their own heart. For the fact is that it is not just ‘Moses' (the Torah) that is veiled, there is a veil on their own hearts. It is there as a result of their choice. They chose to let Moses wear the veil. Now they choose not to come to the light of God (John 3:19). They prefer darkness, hiddenness. As he will say later they have been blinded by the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). We can contrast this with the disciples whose minds were opened so that they saw the significance of Messianic teaching in the Old Testament (Luke 24:45 compare Luke 24:32 with Luke 24:25).
