Peter Pett's Commentary on the Bible
James 1 - Introduction
Chapter 1. The Main Essence Of The Letter.
In this chapter James introduces the main facets that he intends to deal with:
· The need for patient endurance and the maintenance of unwavering trust in God (James 1:2) and by keeping an eye on the goal (James 1:12)
· The dichotomy between rich and poor and its inherent dangers (James 1:9).
· The dangers of temptation (James 1:13).
· God's remedy for temptation in the provision of His word through which He begets us on the basis of His own will and purpose (James 1:16), a word which grows within us and brings about our salvation (James 1:21).
· The need therefore to be quick to hear and slow to speak and to avoid the angry mind (James 1:19).
· The importance of not only hearing but doing (James 1:22).
