‘And her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately, and he commanded that something be given her to eat.'

And her life came back into her. Notice the wording. Jesus summoned back her spirit and her life returned. And she immediately rose up, and Jesus then commanded that she be given something to eat. In front of the father's startled and hopeless gaze the impossible had taken place. His daughter had been dead, and now she was alive again. He could hardly believe it for joy. The command to give something to eat was evidence that she was really alive. Jesus would give similar evidence to prove His own resurrection (Luke 24:41). It also gave them something to concentrate their minds on so as to relieve the tensions.
