Matthew Poole's Concise Commentary

Daniel 1:9

This is a special act of God's favour to his afflicted people, to give them any favour in the eyes of them that do afflict them; Psalms 106:46, He made them to be pitied of those that carried them captive. This is the effect of sincere holiness and innocence, Proverbs 16:7. This is the effect of prayer, 1 Kings 8:50. This is the effect of the special presence of God, Genesis 39:3,4,21.
