THE BOOK OF RUTH.

This concise but interesting History is designed to celebrate the piety and virtues of a woman of Moab, against whose nation Moses had pronounced an anathema. It traces the genealogy, and reflects a lustre on the house of David: it also discovers a pleasing trait of the preparations God was making for the redemption of the world. It occurred either before or during the time that Gideon was judge of Israel, and bears marks of having been written after David's ascension to the throne: Ruth 4:22.
