Timothy

I. His filial attachment to paul.

II. His cooperation in the service of the gospel.

1. In every station.

2. Particularly in a minister.

II. Is given--

1. By faithful service.

2. Willing and childlike submission to superiors.

III. Brings honour.

1. It commands observation.

2. Wins confidence.

As a son with the father--

A lesson

I. To younger ministers to honour and reverence their ancients, and have them for an example.

II. To youths to have proper regard to their elders (1 Timothy 5:1; Leviticus 19:32).

III. To children to obey their parents.

IV. To spiritual children in regard to those who have begotten them in the faith of Christ Jesus (Phm 1:10; 1 Corinthians 4:15; Galatians 4:19). (H. Airay, D. D.)
