Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

Ver. 25. Keep with thy servant David.] Solomon knew well that such as would obtain the accomplishment of the promises, must put them in suit, as Jacob did, Genesis 32:9 , &c. and David, Psa 119:49 and Elijah. 1Ki 18:41 Note here how Solomon pleadeth the performance of one promise, that he may prevail for another. Let us learn in this holy manner to encroach upon God.
