The virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.] A "virgin" she is called, either by an irony, or else because she should have been a pure virgin, sincere in God's service, but was nothing less. What this horrible thing was, see Jer 18:15 cf. Jeremiah 2:13; Jeremiah 2:32 .
