The servant abideth not in the house forever.

The servant has no claim to remain continually in the same family, but may be changed at will. The son can remain because he is. son. Hagar, the bondwoman, was sent forth from the home of Abraham. The Jews, bondmen instead of children, who claimed that they dwelt in the house of God and enjoyed his favor, would soon be expelled; only those who were made free by the Son and thus become children would continue to abide in the Lord's house.
