τί ἄπιστον κρίνεται παρ' ὑμῖν εἰ ὁ θεὸς νεκροὺς ἐγείρει; why is it judged incredible with you if God doth raise the dead? The last clause is not to be understood hypothetically, but ‘If God doth, as He hath done in the case of Jesus.’ So that it is equivalent to ‘Why should you not believe that Jesus has been raised from the dead?’

Chrysostom points out that the strange thing was that the doctrine was not believed: εἰ γὰρ μὴ τοιαύτη δόξα ἦν, εἰ γὰρ μὴ, νῦν δὲ εἰσεφέρετο, ἴσως οὐκ ἂν ἐδέξατό τις τὸν λόγον.
