ἦρεν … περιεπάτει. The taking up took place once for all (aor.), the walking continued (imp.): comp. John 4:27; John 4:30; John 4:40; John 4:47; John 4:50; John 6:66; John 11:27. It is scarcely necessary to discuss whether this miracle can be identical with the healing of the paralytic let down through the roof (Matthew 9; Mark 2; Luke 5). Time, place, details and context are all different, especially the important point that this miracle was wrought on the Sabbath.
