John 5 - Introduction

CHAP. 5. CHRIST THE SOURCE OF LIFE

In chaps. 5 and 6 the word ‘life’ occurs 18 times; in the rest of the Gospel 18 times. ‘Thy son liveth’ (John 4:51) leads up to this subject.

This chapter falls into two main divisions; (1) The Sign at the Pool of Bethesda and its Sequel (1–16); (2) The Discourse on the Son as the Source of Life (17–47).
