14–39. We have (1) a discourse in the midst of the Feast in which three groups take part; ‘the Jews’ (14–24); some of the people of Jerusalem (25–31); the envoys of the Sanhedrin (32–36): (2) a discourse on the last day of the Feast (37–39). The report is no doubt greatly condensed, but the divisions and vacillations in the multitude are vividly preserved.
