οὐ Μ. ἔδ. ὑ τ. νόμον; Here the interrogation probably ends (comp. John 6:70); the next clause is a statement of fact. The words are possibly an allusion to the custom of reading the Law in public every day of the Feast of Tabernacles, when the Feast fell in a Sabbatical year (Deuteronomy 31:10-13). The argument is similar to John 5:45; Moses (see on John 1:17) in whom they trust condemns them. Moreover it is an argumentum ad hominem: ‘Ye are all breakers of the law, and yet would put Me to death as a breaker of it.’
