ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν εἰς πόλεμον. ‘To meet another king in battle.’ There may be an historical allusion here to the disturbed relations between Herod Antipas and his injured father-in-law Hareth, king of Arabia, which (after this time) ended in the total defeat of the former (Jos. Antt. XVIII. 5, § 3).
