ἔκλασα εἰς τ. πεντακισχιλίους. The compound, κατέκλασεν (Mark 6:41), is not repeated. The use of εἰς instead of the dat. comm. is freq. in late Greek. Cf. εἰς τοὺς ἁγίους (1 Corinthians 16:1; 2 Corinthians 8:4; 2 Corinthians 9:1), εἰς τοὺς πτωχούς (Romans 15:26), etc. It is found in LXX. and in papyri. Deissmann, Bib. St. pp. 117 f.

κοφίνους. See on Mark 8:8 and Mark 6:43.

λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, Δώδεκα. They remember the facts, but they have failed to see their significance. They were not likely to forget the abundant store which they themselves had collected after all had been satisfied.
