and Elisha put[R.V. laid] his hands upon the king's hands It will be seen from the marginal rendering of A.V. that the two verbs, both translated -put", are not the same. Hence the need for change in the English. The first verb= make thine hand to ride, is expressive of the grasp of the archer. The action of the prophet in placing his feeble hands upon the king's is meant to be symbolic, and to extend, through the prophet, God's blessing to the undertaking which he has suggested.
