accused The figure in the original is a peculiar one, lit. - ate the(torn) pieces ofthe Jews." The expression has commonly in Aramaic the sense of falsely accuse, or slander, as Psalms 15:3 in the Targ., and in Syriac (e.g. Luke 16:1 for διαβάλλειν; and "âkhçl ḳarzâfor ὁ διάβολος, the false accuser, or, -devil," Matthew 4:1, and regularly): here and Daniel 4:24 it is used at least in the sense of accuse maliciously.
