grieve not A distinct indication of the Personality of the Blessed Spirit. "Grief is certainly a personal affection, of which a Quality is not capable" (Pearson, On the Creed, Art. VIII). Putting aside passages where "spirit" obviously denotes "breath" or "wind," the usage of the word in Scripture favours the interpretation of it as always denoting a personality, good or evil. See further Bp Pearson's discussion. This precept, in this context, seems to indicate that pollutingwords would be a special "grief" to the Holy One.
