After an interlude of music the Psalmist resumes his prayer. He returns to the thoughts of God's lovingkindness and faithfulness, from which he started (Psalms 89:1). But His lovingkindnesses seem to belong to an age that is past and gone: have they vanished never to return? The faith which had to look for the manifestation of God's love in this world was often sorely tried. See Psalms 77; Isaiah 63. For the question cp. Judges 6:13; and for the second line, Micah 7:10.
