died, and rose, and revived Better, probably, died and came to life. The words "and rose" appear to be interpolated. The balance of the clauses is thus made precise: He diedand lived;He is Master of the deadand living.

that he might be Lord that He might become the Master. The emphasis is on the word Lord, or Master. Here St Paul states one great intended effect of the modeof Salvation. It was Redemption, Deliverance by Purchase;and thus it made the saved the personal possession of the Saviour. It was also, specially, through Death and Revival;with a view (among other objects) to the realization by His servants that He who, to save them, had dwelt in both worlds, was their Master in both.
