A COMMENTARY ON THE BOOK OF TITUS By Kevin Graves The book of Titus, as it is known, was a letter from the apostle Paul to a young man whom he had converted on one of his missionary trips. Very little is known of Titus’ background but Galatians 2:3 reveals that he was a Greek. Paul calls Titus his “partner and common helper” concerning the brethren in Corinth (2 Corinthians 8:23). Furthermore, Paul refers to Titus as “mine own son after the faith”(Titus 1:4). It is apparent that Paul had tremendous love and respect for this man.Paul had left Titus on the Isle of Crete in order to finish the work that they had begun. There were many problems in Crete with which Titus was entrusted to handle. This letter was intended to encourage Titus and to instruct him so that he could, in turn, encourage the brethren in Crete and teach them so that all could better serve the Lord.
