Proverbs 11:18
18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
Pro. 11:18. "The wicked worketh a deceitful work," i.e. a work that will deceive him, or that he is greatly deceived in the consequences of. The work that he does, as he views it, seems to promise fair for happiness: his work looks to him as that which yields him a great benefit; but his work deceives him, and he will find himself miserably deceived in it. From the seed that he sows he promises himself a crop of pleasant fruit; but it will deceive him, for the fruit that it will yield will be gall and wormwood, and will prove the most deadly poison. That this is the sense is evident by the words that follow in the latter part of the verse.
