1 CORINTHIANS—NOTE ON 1 Corinthians 5:2 arrogant. See v. 1 Corinthians 5:6. The arrogance may arise from the Corinthians’ mistaken “knowledge” that they are somehow free of normal moral limitations (1 Corinthians 6:12; 1 Corinthians 8:1; 1 Corinthians 10:23). It is also possible that Paul is simply thinking of their characteristic arrogance (1 Corinthians 3:21; 1 Corinthians 4:6, 1 Corinthians 4:8, 1 Corinthians 4:18) despite the shocking sin in their midst.
