1 KINGS—NOTE ON 1 Kings 14:15 In the absence of a strong dynasty to rule Israel, the nation is destined to know only the instability of a reed... shaken (or “swaying”) in the water. Eventually the Israelites will be exiled to a land beyond the Euphrates River, Assyria (2 Kings 17:1, 2 Kings 17:21). Their idolatry includes making Asherim, or Asherah poles, connected with the worship of the goddess Asherah.
