1 KINGS—NOTE ON 1 Kings 22:47 There was no king in Edom; a deputy was king. The Hebrew word for “deputy” is also used to describe Solomon’s various officials (1 Kings 4:5, 1 Kings 4:27; 1 Kings 5:16; 1 Kings 9:23). Jehoshaphat controlled Edom so completely that its king had no more power than one of Solomon’s deputies.
