1 SAMUEL—NOTE ON 1 Samuel 26:19 they have driven me out this day. David has concluded that he can no longer stay in Israel. Partridge is literally a “calling [bird].” Abner had asked who was “calling” the king (v. 1 Samuel 26:14), so, perhaps humorously, David compares himself to a partridge being hunted down by Saul.
