2 CHRONICLES—NOTE ON 2 Chronicles 22:10 With Ahaziah dead, his mother, Athaliah, daughter of Ahab, sets out to kill all of her own grandchildren, that is, all the potential successors to the throne (compare the similar massacre led by her husband, Jehoram; 2 Chronicles 21:4). However, Jehoshabeath, sister of Ahaziah, manages to save the infant Joash, who will eventually become king. Jehoshabeath is the wife of Jehoiada the high priest, which helps explain how Joash could remain hidden in the temple buildings throughout Athaliah’s rule.
