ISAIAH—NOTE ON Isaiah 24:10 The wasted city. The city is an important image in this section (see v. Isaiah 24:12; Isaiah 25:2; Isaiah 26:1, Isaiah 26:5; Isaiah 27:10). Isaiah sees world culture as a city because it is a populated place of imagined safety. “Wasted” is translated “without form” in Genesis 1:2. The world city of human civilization, though highly developed, rejects the will of God and thus wastes its own potential.
