Proverbs 15:5

PROVERBS—NOTE ON Proverbs 15:5 The description of a fool who despises his father’s instruction mirrors that of the foolish man who “despises his mother” (v. Proverbs 15:20). In Proverbs 1:1, the way a person responds to wise parental instruction is an indication of whether he or she will follow the path of wisdom or the way of folly (see Proverbs 1:8; Proverbs 4:1; Proverbs 6:20; Proverbs 13:1). Note also the references in ch. Proverbs 15:1 to how a person responds to reproof (vv. Proverbs 15:5, Proverbs 15:10, Proverbs 15:12, Proverbs 15:31, Proverbs 15:32).
