PSALM—NOTE ON Psalms 91:3 These verses list the benefits that come to those who trust in the Lord. The snare of the fowler (v. Psalms 91:3) seems to be a metaphor for the schemes of those who hate the faithful. Pestilence (vv. Psalms 91:3, Psalms 91:6) and destruction are diseases that God sends on his enemies or his unfaithful people (see Exodus 5:3; Exodus 9:15). The terror and arrow, together with a thousand may fall, envision God’s people under attack. Psalms 91:8 notes that God sends plagues and battles as recompense on the wicked (whether Gentile or Israelite). In such times, the faithful can trust God not to judge them as he does the wicked.
