τὸ γὰρ ὑστέρημά μου κ. τ. λ. for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia (very likely Silas and Timothy; see Acts 18:5; Philippians 4:15), supplied the measure of my want; and in everything I kept myself (note the aorists as pointing to the definite period of his residence in Corinth) from being burdensome unto you (cf. 2 Corinthians 12:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:6), and so will I keep myself.
