τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τ. π.: the promise is the Spirit spoken of in prophetic oracles (Isaiah 44:1; Joel 2:28, etc.). καθίσατε, sit still, patiently but with high hope. ἕως οὗ : without ἄν, because the power is expected to come without fail. ἐνδύσησθε : till ye be invested, a natural figure, and no mere Hebraism. Cf. Romans 13:14; Galatians 3:27. There may be a reference to warlike armour (δίκην πανοπλίας, Euthy. Zig.).
