δύο : more exact than Mt.; of course all the disciples would not be sent on such an errand. Lk. names the two. ὑπάγετε, etc.: the instructions in Mk. are sufficient to guide the messengers. Mt.'s πρὸς τὸν δεῖνα is manifestly too vague, and could not have been spoken by Jesus. ἄνθρωπος : water-carrying was generally the occupation of women; hence a man performing the office would be more noticeable. κεράμιον (neuter of adjective κεράμιος, earthen), an earthen pitcher, here and in Luke 22:10.
