3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

A. Some have tried to figure out what each stone represents. I believe the message here is this - When you are in the presence of God - you are dazzled by the brilliance.

B. Bright colors, precious stones, a rainbow - This is a picture of the impressive and stunning presence of God.

C. Jasper and Sardus - These were stones worn by the High Priest under the Law of Moses. They are also part of the foundation of the New Jerusalem in chapter 20.

D. Rainbow - Since the time of Noah, the rainbow is a covenant sign that God will keep His promises. God is faithful.
