“if by any means. may attain unto the resurrection from the dead”

“If by any means”: “Not an expression of doubt, but of humility” (Robertson p. 454). Compare with Romans 1:10; Romans 11:14. “Unto the resurrection from the dead”: “Literally out of the dead ones” (Jackson p. 70). Paul may be referring to the goal of being resurrected with all the believers, and yet, everyone will be resurrected (John 5:28), both good and evil men and women. In addition, Paul can in some sense be with Christ, even before the resurrection of his body (Philippians 1:21-23). Hence, it seems to me that the resurrection from the dead in this passage refers to the resurrection from the old life of sin. “It may suggest that in consequence of sharing Christ's sufferings and conforming to His death (cf. Romans 6:11), that Paul could live ‘as. victorious, risen man'” (Jackson p. 70).
