Although it is possible that copyists may have omitted fwnh/j as unnecessary, it is much more probable that they would have made the expression more explicit by adding fwnh/j or kai. fwnh/j (being influenced perhaps by the account of the theophany in Exodus 19:16). It should be observed that, though the expression fwnh. mega,lh occurs many times in the New Testament, sa,lpigx mega,lh occurs only here.
