Romans 7:25 ca,rij de. tw|/ qew|/ {B}

The reading that seems best to account for the rise of the others is ca,rij de. tw|/ qew|/, supported by a1 C2 Y 33 81 88 104 436 2127 al. Two Western readings, h` ca,rij tou/ qeou/ (D itar, b, d, mon, o vg Irenaeus al) and h` ca,rij kuri,ou (G itg), pedantically provide a direct answer to the question ti,j me r`u,setai* in ver. Romans 7:24. The absence of de, (B copsa Origen Methodius Epiphanius Jerome½) seems to represent a natural development in the light of liturgical usage (de, is present in the same ascription at Romans 6:17; 2 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Corinthians 8:16; and in some witnesses at 2 Corinthians 9:15). The reading euvcaristw/ tw|/ qew|/ (a* A K P 614 1739 Byz Lect) seems to have arisen through transcriptional error involving the doubling of several letters, toutou[eu],aric[tw]tw;ew.
