Isaiah 48:1-22

Contents: The dullness of Israel. Restoration under the Servant of Jehovah. Israel reminded of the promises.

Conclusion: God often finds His people obstinate and perverse, but for all that He makes it redound to the honor of His mercy to spare and reprieve them, refining them in the furnace of affliction, rather than cutting them off. O, that men would own Him as the true and only God, receiving His promises and looking to His Redeemer.

Striking Facts: Isaiah 48:16-17. The Spirit of God is here spoken of as a person distinct from Father and Son, as that which is said to the same purpose with this (Isaiah 61:1) is applied to Christ (Luke 4:21), so may this be. Christ the Redeemer was sent by the Father and He had the Spirit without measure.
