The land of Judaea [τ η ν ι ο υ δ α ι α ν γ η ν]. Literally, the Judaean land. The phrase occurs only here in the New Testament.

Tarried (die triben). The verb originally means to rub, hence to wear away, consume; and so of spending or passing time.

Baptized [ε β α π τ ι ζ ε ν]. The imperfect tense agrees with the idea of tarrying. He continued baptizing during His stay.
