Isaiah 8 - Introduction

The prophet foretels that Syria and Israel should be subdued by Assyria, Isaiah 8:1. That Judah also should be afflicted, Isaiah 8:5. Declares God's judgments to be irresistible, and that they ought to be feared, Isaiah 8:9. That the Lord is a sanctuary to the godly, and a stone of stumbling to the wicked, Isaiah 8:14; Isaiah 8:15. The prophecy is sure, Isaiah 8:16. God must be waited on, even when he seems to disregard his people's prayers, and necromancers and wizards must not be consulted, Isaiah 8:17. The perplexity and misery of idolaters, Isaiah 8:21; Isaiah 8:22.
