In whom also ye are circumcised— St. Paul uses this argument in opposition to those who pleaded for the necessity of external circumcision. He assures the Colossians, that they had no need of this circumcision, as they were circumcised with that kind of circumcision which the external rite was intended to express; namely, the putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, and initiated by that means into his church, as the members of it formerly were by external circumcision.
