Genesis 25:29

Jacob sod pottage, &c.— This pottage was red, or yellowish, and made of lentils, Genesis 25:34 from AEgypt; a food highly prized by the ancients. By Esau's saying with so much eagerness, give me that red, red, as it is in the original, some suppose he knew what it was, while others conceive that it expresses the impatience of his appetite. He was from this event called Edom afterwards, which signifies red.
