And as it is appointed unto men once to die.— The apostle had several times asserted, that Christ was made like unto us in all things, except sin; and this consideration he seems to allege in this place, in order to clear up what he says of Christ's only dying once. By dying once, he submits to the condition which they were in for whom he died; namely, for the whole world, but especially for them who perseveringly believe.
