O Israel, trust thou in the Lord— Israel trusteth in the Lord; and so in the following verses the verbs should be read in the indicative; as we find them in the LXX; and the sense requires it to be said, Israel doth trust, &c. to mark the difference between their trust and that of the heathen: and thus too it agrees with the latter clause of each period; their help and their shield. Israel is the main body of the Jewish nation. The house of Aaron comprehends the Levites: they that fear the Lord, seems to take in those, all the world over, who worshipped Jehovah.
